Volume!

I have long, and when I say long, I mean down to my waist long, dark brown, curly hair. I do straighten it everyday though, and that's all I do with it, there isn't really much I can do with it. I was looking through hairstyles the other day because me & my friend both grew out our hair and she dyed her's brown and cut it the other day for the new school year and says that I should cut my hair too. Only thing is, I've only done it once, in 5th grade. If this was a television show and not a blog, then this is where the flashback scene would begin...
I'm not sure who convinced me to do it, but somebody did, and so I was in the car on the way to the forumn to get my hair cut at CoolCuts for Kidz! because we had a discount coupon for this place. When I went in my mom told the lady where I wanted it cut, an inch below my shoulders. The lady asked me if I wanted to watch a movie or play a game, becuase that's why it's coolcuts for kids, I said no, all I wanted was a haircut, she said ok. "I'm going to watch Shrek becuase it's my favorite kids movie", she said and put the videotape in the tiny TV in front of us. Then the haircutting began. I didn't pay much attention while she did it, because it isn't that exciting, but I also wasn't watching Shrek, because I didn't, and still don't, like that movie. When she was done I looked in the mirror and was horrified; an inch below my shoulders turned into 3 inches above them.

Needless to say, I have not been back there.

I grew my hair back out, which went quickly because I remember having my long hair in 7th grade, and haven't gotten it cut since. But this picture is how I would like my hair to look, if I had to cut it, and I think this weekend I might do just that, and also get a french manicure, because, well, I want one.

How to Make a Pantyhose Necklace

When I was in 7th grade (I'm in 11th now) I used to see a bunch of girls in my gym class with these little black choker necklaces, I always wanted to ask where they got them or how they made them, but I never did. Then one day I overheard them say that they were made out of pantyhose. There was no spare pantyhose around my house, and I don't think my mom would've appreciated me bying some just to cut it apart and make a necklace, so I forgot about them. Until about five minutes ago. I looked up "pantyhose necklace" on google, and it came up with results! Sadly, there aren't any pictures of it, and I kind of wanted one for this...ah well. I think I might have some black pantyhose that I wore to band banquet my freshman year that I never did fit into, nor did I like, and that I wouldn't mind cutting up and making into a necklace. I'm going to go find them now, good day!

In case you're curious...

1.Find a pair of pantyhose with the color of your choice. Think colorful.
2.Pick a leg of the pantyhose and take the largest part of it (usually the upper thigh).
3.Cut a piece of pantyhose about 1 to 2 inches (2.5cm - 5cm) thick. Make sure that it is still a complete, closed circle after cutting.
4.Roll it. The piece should roll up by itself so it is less than a centimeter thick. If not, use your fingers to roll it up.
5.Wear it. Because it's so stretchy, you can stretch it over your head and around your neck. It won't be tight because of the stretchiness, and it's awesomely stylish and unique!

There you go!!!

Band Day 11

Today we learned set 15, 15a, 15b, 15c, & 16. They have to be my least favorite sets so far, it's not that they're bad, but it's that they are so hard to get to. Backwards jazz running while playing, 8count turns while backwards jazz running, and so on, not fun for short people like myself.
While we were doing that, I thought about something, the "knight pride" car sticker thing that I have on the back of my car, is probably going to pull some of the paint off when I take it off.... The only reason I care is because I kind of hoped to get a job the second semester of this year, when there isn't all the marching band stuff going on, and save up some money, and buy a truck, which would mean selling my car. Idea #1--Just take it off, it's not like anybody who didn't care about the roof would care about that
Idea #2--Leave it on, say I have another, and let them pull it off themselves.

I then had to learn another set so I stopped thinking about it.

Just realized that I can send pics here from my phone, I should do that. I should also put ones I take on my camera, because I take A LOT of photos, of basically everything.

Band Day 10

We learned all the way up to set 14, and things went smoothly, mainly because there were some clouds and a nice breeze outside. Our show this year is a bunch of lines, which I find incredibly boring, we normally do awesome looking shows & visuals and stuff, but so far this year, that's not present in our show. My favorite part of Segment 1: Sets 9-13, because I just get to stand in one place, that unfortunately is at the front where I can't move at all and where I have to atleast pretend to play.... Which, is what I will be doing at the first football game because my mouth is still not to the point where I can play yet. I got powerchains on today, I've had my braces done many times and they never hurt after the initial visit, but these powerchains.. OW OW OW OW OW!!!!!!!! >.< They hurt SOOOO bad. They put away any ideas I had about attempting to play this week/weekend.
I should record the show someday & put it on here (they say we shouldn't let competition see it, but I doubt people read this, so it's ok)

Band Day 9

I am behind, by a few days, because band day 9 was Friday, and it's now Tuesday. What I can recall about band day 9....
We went outside and learned a few sets and then we went inside and the marching instructor told us that we should take our coordinate sheets home and draw out all of our spots. (Which I never had any intention of doing, and am really glad I didn't do). My mom had been volunteering and helping with the paperwork and stuff, but she had to go back to work, so I got to drive myself there :)

I'm not a fan of:

People dying their hair pink on the underneath, and then wearing it like this girl. It looks tacky, but quite a few people are starting to do this.

I was going to post a band day 9, but today we had the day off because the teachers all had some sort of seminar to go to. Also, from now until the first day of school (24th) there is no afternoon band camp! Which just means I get to go home and read A Tale of Two Cities.

Band Day 8

Band camp starts at 7:30am. Well, actually, it starts at 7:15am. "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to be left behind" not that anybody could actually be "left behind" because we don't actually go anywhere, but you get the point. It was really early in the morning, and already it was hot. There were no clouds out, but the sun had decided to come out. There was also no breeze and it was getting increasingly humid, my hair was not happy about that fact. We marched in fundamental block for a while, then went into sectionals (we accomplished nothing) and then we went inside because it was so hot that we got to go inside.
Inside, we practiced for a good hour or so, then got a gatorade break, then we decided to just relax for a bit. Problem, the director decided to walk by. I didn't get in that much trouble, and mainly because the whole section yelled some other persons name when she asksed who the leader was.

Ever notice how when you're doing something fun the time goes by really fast, but when you are doing something that isn't so fun, the time goes by as slow as possible? I've noticed this with band camp, when I'm taking a water break and messing around, it goes by quickly, when we're marching the same four sets over and over again for two hours, it takes FOREVER.

Band Day 7

I've found the solution to being really bored during the inside practice, texting (and/or myspace mobile..hehe). The director can't see me during the big rehersal, and during sectionals nobody cares.
Also, I had some guy show me the trombone positions and the notes, and then attempt to teach me a song.

We learned some more sets, and we practiced them a few times then went inside. I was really happy that we went inside, it was really hot outside and I was also getting really hungry because all I ate for breakfast was a biscuit. My mouth was sore, I was tired, and I didn't feel good.

This happened while inside:
Girl- "Melissa, stop talking"
Me- "My bad"
Girl-"Are you having an attitude with me?"
Me-"It's possible."
This continued in this manner for a few minutes before she got annoyed and walked off. I found it amusing. She wasn't my leader, I know this because I am, and because she's not even in my section, therefore it wasn't really her business to begin with. Also, at this time, I wasn't talking. I probably was earlier, but the important thing is that at that time, I was not talking.

Band Day 6

Today we went outside and worked on the "marching fundamentals" in the "fundamental block", the block is just us running around trying to beat each other to hash marks, and ending up in some rectangular form, there really is no order about it.
I did really bad during this. I wasn't allowed to play, so I wasn't looking at music, and so I didn't know the counts, and for the first few times we marched it I had to guess, thankfully it seemed that everybody around me was guessing too lol.
We always had drill charts, binders with drill sheets in them, this was nice and simplistic. Now we have tiny memo pads that we tape little pieces of paper in that are like graphic quardinates (I am pretty sure that is spelled incorrectly, but at the moment I don't care) and (wow, I just realized it's spelled coordinates...lol okay well, I'll change it later..maybe) it's really confusing. The leader and the captains still have drill books/charts/whatever they're called, and so I just look off that.

I have to go to bed soon, but before I do that I have to straighten my hair, so that it isn't all frizzy and weird for band day 7.

Also, I think I'm leaving for lunch tomorrow, so I really don't want my hair to be frizzy and weird!

Yeah.....Bye!

Band Day 3,4,5

On day 3, I went and had four teeth removed, so obviously, I was not at band practice.
On day 4, I didn't go back to band practice.
On day 5, I accidentally ended up at half of band practice, but just goofed off with some other people and didn't actually do anything.

I'm not allowed to play for about a month :'( I miss practicing already and it's only been a week.

Band 1&2

Every single day of band camp I am going to write a blog, mainly because I want to count the number of days in band camp.
Then I will find something interesting to blog about, because believe me, my day at band camp is anything but interesting.

Things you should know:
I'm Melissa, you should know that
I play tenor sax, I probably mentioned it before
I'm a junior, so you don't ask if I'm a freshman, because that annoys me; I hear it all the time

I think I messed that punctuation up, but who cares, this is a blog, not an English paper, right??

So at first we just went over basic fundamentals, how to hold the horn. We also marched a little, and then we went inside. Inside we attempted the show music, I say attempted because it sounded like a truck full of cymbals got hit by a train.

My section just kind of goofs off, the leaders have always been pretty chill, which brings me to my next topic:

I'm the "captain" of my section. Haha, you have no idea how much that amuses me.

Bye for now.

Cover of La Roux's Bulletproof (not by me)

Even though I have it set to not show tags, it does still show them, and that really annoys me. So now instead of labels or tags, they're cheetos.

I really like this song, so the other day I learned how to play it and what not, but I'm lazy and haven't put it on youtube yet, but this chick did, so enjoy:

je t'aime

My headphones are coming apart a little, and now I need to go buy some more. It's such a shame though that they cost $30, I mean, they're just headphones (as amazing as they may be). Also, I think I'm going to buy one of those new 120GB Ipods, I listen to music....a lot...and this will allow me to have ALL of my music on my ipod, and still have some space.
I really have no reason to post this, but I'm watching my friends little brother, and it's boring, and I'm looking like I'm doing something important and people are leaving me alone (:
